Toughened glass, also called heat-strengthened glass, is a special type of glass that shares similarities with tempered glass. To make toughened glass, the glass is heated to a temperature of approximately 600°C and gradually cooled down. This process enhances the glass’s strength. Toughened glass falls between regular flat glass and tempered glass in terms of product type.

Compared to ordinary float glass, toughened glass offers several advantages that are similar to those of tempered glass. For example, it is up to 2 times stronger than normal float glass and has vastly improved heat resistance. However, unlike tempered glass, which can suffer from issues like poor flatness and the risk of spontaneous breakage, toughened glass avoids these problems.

When toughened glass breaks, the resulting shards resemble those of regular glass. Instead of small, dangerous pieces, toughened glass forms continuous cracks. This makes it significantly safer for use in buildings as there is less risk of shattered glass falling and causing harm to people on the ground.

Toughened glass is suitable for use in building facades, exterior windows, automatic doors, escalators, showers and bath cabinets.
